The 2022 General Assembly, the third consecutive edition to be held remotely, appointed Mr. Edward Moreland as the new IMMA President. Mr. Moreland succeeds Mr. Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto. Between 2020 and 2022, Mr. Sharma presided IMMA navigating with agility through the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic. In his opening speech, Mr. Sharma highlighted how, despite two difficult years, IMMA proved nothing but resilient:
“We can take great satisfaction with the fact that as a team we continued to collaborate and ensured that our responsibilities did not get diluted, and we met expectations of all our stakeholders. This is testimony to the decades of investment in the mission of IMMA by all the members and to the efficient and committed Secretariat”, said Mr. Sharma.
For the next two years, the presidency will be in the hands of Mr. Edward Moreland. As former vice-president of IMMA and serving on its Steering Committee for over ten years, Mr. Moreland’s experience in the motorcycle industry speaks for itself. Currently holding the position of Vice President of Government Affairs at Harley Davidson Inc., Mr. Moreland previously served as Senior Vice President of Government Relations for the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and as Vice-President of the Commission on Mobility, Transport, Road Safety and Public Policy of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). With 20 years of experience in motorcycling governmental affairs and as, above all, a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, Mr. Moreland is committed to promote motorcycling globally. In his speech, the newly elected president underlined the advantages of Powered-Two-Wheelers and the importance of technology agnostic requirements and policies:
“Closing my thank you to President Sharma and IMMA’s members, I am confident that we will greet each other again in person soon. In my upcoming term, we will take the good things from what we learned during the pandemic and reclaim the contribution motorcycling mobility has in our society”, said Mr. Moreland.
