"What is IMMA?

The International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association, usually known as IMMA for short, is the trade association which represents the motorcycle industry at the world level.

Who are the members of IMMA?

You can find the details in the Members list but in general terms the Members are the national or regional associations representing the industry around the world.

What does IMMA do?

Like all trade associations, IMMA acts as the focal point for the manufacturers to discuss any topic which interests the industry as a whole. Often these topics are the result of governmental enquiries or proposals and in these cases IMMA represents the industry's collective view in the appropriate discussions.

Our "core business" is the development of international regulations and standards which affect the construction and the use of motorcycles. (By "motorcycle" we mean two and three wheeled vehicles, so this includes mopeds, scooters and the many different types of small commercial or even passenger vehicles with three wheels).

Obviously there are many things which have to be taken into account when preparing legislation and this involves IMMA in numerous additional activities connected to the issues under discussion, for example, research, conferences etc.

Currently IMMA participates in the work of: " the United Nations committees on vehicle construction and road safety " the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) " the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) " the Asian Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) organisation " the European Council of Ministers of Transport (ECMT)

When was IMMA started?

In 1947 under the name Bureau Permanent International des Constructeurs de Motocycles. The name changed to IMMA in 1987."
