IMMA is the association which represents the manufacturing industry of powered two wheelers at the global level.
The product range goes from small 50cc step-through vehicles, up to motorcycles of 1000cc and over. Powered Two Wheelers are divided into different segments such as moped, scooter, street, classic, performance or super-sport, touring, custom, supermoto and off-road bikes and tricycles
IMMA’s core business is the negotiation of global international legislation on the construction and use of powered two wheelers. IMMA enables the industry to speak with one voice at all levels.
The primary reason for creating international regulations is to facilitate trade through harmonized technical specifications.
The substance of the regulations inevitably means in-depth discussion of the environmental and safety issues related to PTWs.
In a global business environment, the PTW manufacturers are faced with different regulations in different countries, while often aimed at achieving the same purpose, but differing for historical reasons. Harmonizing these regulations world-wide, offers savings from many perspectives and results in a wider choice of vehicles to all consumers.
IMMA attends all the meetings of the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) and the associated expert groups which develop the individual regulations.
